Dear Parents

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAYSPlease remember that the school will be closed for the children on Monday 9 November for one day only for thefirst training day of the year. School will be open as usual from Tuesday.
There are three days booked for 19-21 July 2010 and this leaves one further day to be arranged.
Sending payments into school: When sending money into school, please send in the exact change in an envelope marked with your child’s name, class and what the payment is for.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION – Many thanks to those of you who attended the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) meeting on 4 November. On behalf of the school I would like to thank Sandra Greenwood, outgoing Chairperson, Jopee Grist, outgoing Treasurer, and Claire Finnell, outgoing Secretary for their hard work and commitment to the school over the past three years.

A new Committee and executive Committee were elected and the incoming Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary are Georgina Kinnear, Martina Haugh and Tonya Bozzuto respectively. We were very fortunate that this year we were able to appoint a Vice-Chair, Sam Heatman.

The first of the new Committee’s ventures will be the Sponsored Silence to be held on 3 December. We will be sending sponsor forms out soon.

ATTENDANCE - Please read the attendance information on the back of this newsletter. Attendance is an area that is monitored very closely by the Education Welfare Service and the school attendance figures are reviewed regularly. The Education Welfare Officer contacts parents where the figures for non-attendance give cause for concern. It is imperative that your child attends school regularly to achieve his/her potential.
From the Attendance Policy - Requests for Holidays during Term Time
The Governors recognise that very occasionally it may be appropriate for parents to be granted permission for a child to accompany them on a holiday during term time. However in order for this not to adversely affect the child’s progress absence during term time will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances, subject to:
  • A maximum of ten day’s absence, from all causes, in any rolling twelve month period;
  • Absence during May and June not being`  authorised as this is when the children are assessed and tested.

Where there are concerns about unauthorised absence, parents will be informed of their legal obligations by letter and of the very real possibility that extended absence could lead to their child’s name being removed from the register. The place would then be offered to another child. Re-entry would be subject to a place being available in line with the Admissions Policy.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE - The annual Mass of Remembrance will be held in St Joseph’s Catholic College on 18 November at 4.30pm. Children from the Infant School will be carrying the Offertory.
CLIFTON DIOCESE MASS OF THANKSGIVINGwill be held on 26 November at 7.00pm in Clifton Cathedral for all those who work in and support Catholic Education. Full details are available from the office.

Yours sincerely
Mrs Denise Slaght
