NEWSLETTER NO. 9, 14 FEBRUARY 2011
Information Evening 10 February 2011 – I am very sorry that the Joint Information Evening was cancelled at such short notice. As soon as the date is re-arranged we will let you know.
Book Fair – Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Fair. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit by the author Denis Bond on Tuesday 1 February and the children’s book character costumes on Friday 11th were excellent. With the commission from the sales the teachers were able to choose books for the school and class libraries to the value of £567.92. The books we are able to purchase with the commission are valuable resources for the children.
Parents and Friends Association (PFA) Bingo Evening – Thank you to all the families who supported the Bingo Evening by donating raffle prizes and/or attending on the night. The work the PFA undertake raising funds for the benefit of the children in school is invaluable and very much appreciated. The next events will be a St Patrick’s Day Quiz in March. The winner will be chosen from the returned entries. The Spring Fete will be held on the afternoon of 14 May - please put this date in your diary. More information will follow nearer the time.
Staff Development Days, Term and Holiday Dates
28 February – Staff Development Day – school closed for the children.
11 March – Staff Development Day – school closed for the children.
There will be no school for the children from 21 February to 28 February inclusive.
Children should return to school on Tuesday 1 March.
Please note the dates of the Easter Holiday. The dates are the same as the Junior School and the Swindon Borough Schools but are different to St Joseph’s Catholic College.
The Easter Holiday for the Infant and Junior Schools will be from 11 to 25 April inclusive.
Please remember to inform the school if your child is ill - It is important that you either telephone or email the school by 9.30am on the first morning of absence (details are at the top of this Newsletter). When your child returns to school he or she should bring a letter explaining why he/she was absent. Children who have been ill with sickness or diarrhoea must not return to school for 48 hours after the last episode.
The children are settled now into the school routine and at this stage in the year we particularly like to encourage the independence of the Key Stage 1 children. Therefore once the bell has been rung at 8.45am and the school doors are open we would ask that the children come into the school building on their own. If you would like to speak to a member of staff you may of course come in but in these circumstances we would ask that you bring younger brothers and sisters with you but that any buggies/pushchairs are left outside.
We hope you will be able to help us in this way for the children’s development and to keep the corridors clear as the mornings are particularly busy with the children getting their coats off and their reading books, water bottles etc. out of their bags.
Thank you for your co-operation.
